“Home is the heart of life…Home is where we feel at ease, where we belong, where we can create surroundings that reflect our tastes and pleasures…Making a home is a form of creativity open to everyone.”

TIPS FOR SPRING
1. Spring is synonymous with cleaning, so make it enjoyable. Put on our favorite opera or rock and roll CD and get the “good chi” flowing. Vacuum the tops of windowsills and doorjambs. Clean the globes on light fixtures. You can even create your own nontoxic furniture polish by melting the following ingredients in a double boiler.

• 2 ounces of olive oil
• 1 ounce beeswax
• 1 ounces coconut oil
• 1 ounce carnauba wax

Remove from heat and pour in 4 ounces of distilled water and combine with a hand mixer until creamy. Add 1/3-teaspoon grapefruit seed extract as a preservative. Add 5 to 10 drops of essential lemon oil. Stir well and let solidify. Store in a glass jar with a screw top. You can learn more about nontoxic housekeeping by visiting www.betterbasics.com

2. Capture spring’s enchanting light in a collection of colorful glass bottles or vases on the windowsill. No collection you say? Use small bottles from bath oils, spices, and cosmetics. An orderly line of small bottles with a single fragrant blossom in each on a windowsill or down the middle of a table exemplifies the beauty of simplicity.

3. To diffuse spring’s stronger light, use sheets of scrim simply hemmed and hung on a tension rod to create easy, interesting, textured curtains.

4. Burlap is great for occasional table coverings. You can simply tack it to the sides of compressed wooden round tables available at Target for under $10. Top with a fabric remnant complementary to your room, and you’ve got an inexpensive, attractive covered table. Add decorative trim to the fabric topper to give your room more personality.

5. Create a “mood board” before you begin a project, whether for the home or the garden. On a poster board tack samples of fabric, paint, wallpaper, and pictures of furniture or plants. See how your initial preferences change over time. If after one month, you’ve tired of a fabric, color, or plant, nothing is lost. Replace these with new examples. If an idea stands the test of time, this helps define the style you really want before you spend a dime.

6. For a fun and inexpensive coffee or side table indoors or out, find a large terra cotta pot, set it right side up and top with a piece of glass. You can even create a terrarium by adding soil and plants under the glass. Succulents add interest with their unusual form and texture.

7. Create a fun and whimsical hanging lamp by inverting a plain or painted terracotta pot and wiring it using a kit available from home supply stores for about $3. These lamps are especially charming on a porch or over a potting bench.

8. Along with spring comes the urge to spend more time outdoors. Create a stylish outdoor room that ‘s an intimate getaway right beyond your back door. Use a canopy tent available at warehouse stores to create an instant room. Use pea gravel or flagstone for flooring. If you have unattractive concrete, paint a “rug” on it or use a real sisal or sea grass rug. Shop for offbeat comfortable chairs and accessories at flea markets. Let your outdoor masterpiece evolve as we head into summer.
WINTER DECORATING TIPS
Now that the holidays are over, and the decorations are put away, it’s a great time to freshen up your home. Here are a few ideas you may want to try.
1. Lighting is so important in creating a room’s mood, especially in the dark months of winter. A central ceiling fixture produces a harsh light in only one area of the room. To remedy this try the following ideas.
• Place at least 3 lamps in a seating area in a triangular configuration.
• Use accent lighting on art, bookshelves, or architectural focal points.
• Create a dramatic light pattern by using an up light paired with a plant or a salvaged architectural remnant. Up lights are available at home supply stores for about $7.
• Dimmer switches are easy and inexpensive, about $5, and give you the ability to create different moods with existing light sources. They are available for lamps as well as permanent fixtures.2. Change your rooms look instantly by changing throw pillows.
• Use existing pillows you have and create “slipcovers” for them. If you are a non-sewer, you can use fabric glue or fusible iron-on tape.
• Splurge on expensive fabrics for pillows, as you’ll need only a yard or two. Be sure to check remnants at fabric stores. Calico Corners is a fantastic resource. Check out decorative trims available as they can give a traditional fabric a modern edge. Have fun with the trim. Express yourself!
• Double your decorating options by putting a different fabric on the front and back of your pillows. You can change the look to suit your mood simply by turning the pillow over!

3. Scent and freshen stale air in a stuffy winter home with candles and flowers.
• Create a rich aroma by nestling vanilla votive candles in several scoops of coffee beans in an attractive bowl. This is great for a brunch or a treat to get you going in the morning. Treat yourself to this candle lighting ritual every morning. Don’t forget to blow the candles out before you leave the home!
• Purchase cut or potted narcissus or hyacinths to bring spring’s lush fragrance into your home a little earlier.
• Branches for forcing are beginning to be available now. You can choose from cherry, apple, forsythia, quince, or several other varieties depending on your geographical area. Cut branches at an angle and mash the ends with a hammer to increase water uptake. Put branches in lukewarm water and place in a dark, cool room. Mist daily and change water often. When the buds begin to swell, arrange the branches in a vase and move into a well-lit room, but NOT in the direct sunlight. The branches will blossom in two to three weeks, and will keep for a week or longer. Enjoy and remember spring will be here soon!

• Initially, I was a little concerned about removing some of my possessions from the house, but it was great! I only wish that I had Interior Transformations move things around some time ago! The staging definitely helped the sale of my home. The house showed really well and there was no clutter. I would recommend Interior Transformations to others selling their home.

• Interior Transformations staged our home for its impending sale. For a very reasonable cost, they added plants, flowers, artwork and some furnishings to augment our own things. The results enhanced the feel and created a positive attraction to our living environment. Realtors and clients had many good things to say about their work. Their thoughts and actions totally pertain to their work and they help the client achieve their goals by providing excellent service. Interior Transformations is an asset providing outstanding value to the homeowner.
Christine and Don Webb

• We wanted to thank you for all you did turning our home from a mundane “normal” house into a showplace that enabled us to earn far over asking price. From the moment I called you, I knew you were the right person. You came over promptly to meet and talk about expectations and what you could provide or would want from us. You shopped for the accessories (what a luxury!) while we were in the turmoil of packing and juggling the needs of a toddler.
You had your masterpiece waiting for us to see after we were gone all day. Throughout the process, you were like an Ever Ready battery, working non-stop, while remaining constantly chipper and supportive. As a result, I found I didn’t even wonder what the house would look like – I just knew it would work our and it did! You even came back unasked before the second Open House with a vase of flowers you know would be the crowning touch for visitors. I would highly recommend you to anyone wanting his or her house to look its best!
Sandra and Hans Marquardt Kristensen

• You do magic with moving items from one place to another and just combining things in different arrangements! It was quite a pleasant surprise to look at our home through new and professional eyes. The house looked lovely and smelled good with all the fresh flowers – your work really paid off!
We are convinced that staging set a mood and helped people visualize themselves living there. Our home sold in only two weeks at over the asking price! Thank you! We are so appreciative of all your help. We know it made the difference in how quickly our home sold. We would absolutely recommend Interior Transformations to others.
Art and Judi Slater

• Staging my condominium affected the sale, 100%, not doubt about it! My home looked like a picture in a magazine! In fact, staging enhanced my daily life. My realtor could not have recommended any interior specialists better than the two of you! I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Most of all, I thank the two of you for letting me have input, and the warmth and friendliness I felt from both of you.

How Interior Transformations Works

Your home’s transformation begins with an initial consultation. This is our opportunity to define your goals for your home, for you to show me pieces that are meaningful to you, and for us to define the problems in your home. Whether your design dilemma is traffic flow, storage space and clutter, pulling together an eclectic assortment of belongings, or just plain boredom with a tired-looking room, we formulate a plan for you that takes into account your lifestyle, personality, and taste.

Next, we determine the scope of your redesign and the cost, and set a date for your home’s transformation. On the day of your redesign, you are free to go about your day. Because Interior Transformations always works with at least one assistant, I have found it is more efficient for the client to be away from the home. While you are gone, our insured staff is busy moving furniture, rehanging pictures, replacing your accessories, making your home the best it can be.

Upon your return, we will examine the redesigned spaces together. Your feedback is crucial. If something doesn’t “feel right”, I will refine it until it feels perfect to you.

HOW INTERIOR TRANSFORMATIONS CAN HELP

Interior Transformations can help:
• Improve traffic flow and functionality, and reduce clutter
• Pull a room together after painting or new furniture purchases
• Create optimum floor plans to prevent unnecessary furniture purchases
• Rapidly pull your home together after a move
• Smooth transitions when downsizing, expanding or blending households
• Accentuate the positive features when selling your home
• Transform your rooms for about the price of a chair

Testimonials

• I couldn’t come up with a furniture configuration for my living room. After the redesign, it looked beautiful – well thought out and peaceful. I had high expectations for the furniture placement – everything else was above and beyond what I had expected. The room feels less cluttered and makes me feel calmer. I’ve gotten lots of compliments! Interior Transformations is a great and much needed service.
Jennifer Lowery, Kensington, CA
• We were nervous about picking the wrong colors for our living room, and we would have if you hadn’t come along! Your color selections gave us the exact feel we were looking for. We LOVE it! Our paintings pop out now. The furniture works so well in the room because the painted walls are so perfectly coordinated with it. I would definitely recommend Interior Transformations to others!
Joyce and Darin Kessler, Albany, CA
• This past weekend ranks as one of my all-time favorite redesign experiences. I have raved about you to my family and the folks down at Edelman Productions. Everything seemed to come together for us… the homes, the homeowners, and mostly your talents. I am really thrilled with the segments we shot. I am confident that the folks at HGTV will love what we did!
Kara Wayne, Independent Producer, Minneapolis, MN
• We buy what we love, but we couldn’t make it come together in a cohesive way. We would have never thought of the furniture layout they came up with. Oh my gosh, our redesign is fabulous! WE LOVE IT! We absolutely love it! All of this stuff was taken from different parts of our home. It’s amazing how it all came together.
Sarah and Tim Nelson, Minneapolis, MN

• Tre spent a few hours transforming some rooms in our home and transformed me in the process. The result of the redesign is satisfying beyond measure. I had no idea the rearrangement of our favorite pieces would make such a dramatic improvement in the look and feel of our home. The well thought out and careful placement of each piece somehow translates into a calm and content feeling for me when I’m in these rooms. Tre also suggested a paint color for the bedroom walls that I found incredibly energizing. I can hardly wait for her return!
Mary Tafi, Malibu, CA

• Tre helped me choose paint colors for our new home. You can’t imagine how many people have asked about them. Our architect even refers his clients to us so they can see the colors!
Laura Tannahill, Albany, CA

• Interior Transformations just finished transforming my living room into a beautiful yet comfortable space. They also set up a fun playroom for my 1-year-old daughter. They have kids themselves, so they know exactly how to make a child friendly home. They also shopped with me and helped me select furniture and accessories with incredible prices. They also helped me save money by using my existing furniture and items. They are the best I’ve ever worked with!
Samantha Kann, Richmond, CA

• For five years, turning my house into a home was I bit of an obsession for me. I slowly developed an idea of how I wanted my family’s space to look and feel, but I couldn’t quite get there on my own. I decided to give Interior Transformations a chance. I was amazed at the results. In one day, they achieved what I had failed to do in five years! By creating new furniture arrangements and hanging art, they transformed our living room, dining room, and entryway into warm and pleasing spaces. We were so pleased with the results that we had them come back and work their magic on the rest of our house. Their work is definitely worth every penny!
Sally Logan, Kensington, CA

• Once they arranged the furniture, pictures, plants, etc. in our great room, we realized just how little we knew about decorating and balancing a home. It didn’t look bad before, but afterwards, it looked GREAT!
Matt Rivera, Santa Rosa, CA
• Tre took furnishings we thought we could no longer use, repositioned them, and helped them find attractive new life. She made our home a cozy place where we can relax. We love that she was able to draw out the essence of who we are, honor that, and reflect it in our home decor.
Lynn Signorelli and Tomas Schoenberg, Kensington, CA

• I can not wait to invite my friends to my new home!
